The best moonstones were once mined in St Gotthard, Switzerland- also known as mount adular. That is why the mysterious blue sheen of this lovely rainbow moonstone is also known as “Adularescence”. The best moonstone is crystal clear with a blue shimmer on the surface. This shimmer is created by the interaction of light with layer of little “albite” crystals in the moonstones. Some moonstone facts- Moonstone is a June birthstone in United States as an alternate for pearl. The moonstones were called many names in ancient age.
